Team West Coast - your Club needs you
The BAZAN BAY 5km race is on Sunday March 8, 2009. TWC is the host organization for thisrace and it is a major fundraiser for the club. We need your help to make this another successful event for the running community of Vancouver Island. Have you ever:
[ participated in a TWC hosted swim, bike or run
[ taken advantage of TWC discounts at any of the clubs’ retail sponsors
[ purchased subsidized Club wear
[ attended Club BBQ’s, Christmas dinner or other Social event?
[ taken advantage of TWC membership discountwhen joining TRI-BC?
Then this is chance to give something back by volunteering for one morning at Bazan Bay in beautiful Sidney. Please email me at the link below with your name and contact info.
If you are going to be out of town on March 8 or really need to run the 5km race you can still be a volunteer. Friends and family can also help and do not have to be TWC members. By the way, we also have one of the best free post race meals I have ever had (thanks to Jacqui, Breadstuff’s and all who work in the kitchen). Thank you for considering this request.

Island Race Series Carpooling
Anyone wishing to carpool to out of town races can meet at the Helmcken Road park-and-ride lot. All out of town races start at 11:00, so departure times are suggested so that arrival at the race is approximately 10:00 to allow time for a coffee along the way and a warm-up jog before the race. If you are planning to carpool to the race, and plan to leave at a different time, let wabbit know how many seats are available and I can post in the Digest if you are looking to fill a vehicle. Also, don’t forget www.pickuppal.com as another option.
[ February 8, Cedar 12k - 08:30 departure
[ March 22, Comox Valley Half Marathon - 07:30 departure
[ April 5, Merville 15k - 07:00 departure

Start the New Year on the right foot - or your left - and Register today for the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Investors Group Walk for Memories: or If you are unable to participate in the Walk & Wish to support this cause by giving a tax deductible Pledge; you can do so by securely “online” pledging someone who is participating in the Walk. How? Just go to the web site below, click on Donate/Pledge, then Support Walker etc, then enter name & city of a person you wish to pledge/support! Come & join in the fun & walk to "raise the community awareness" of Alzheimer's disease or pledge someone you know who may be registered! Walking - ’Step out’ & Sign up today.

TWC Cycling News
Although there was a good turnout for the ride last Saturday there was little enthusiasm for a creative ride. The Ladies Leisure Group of three teamed up with Ken Baker's group for a ride to McTavish Road and the remaining five headed out to Wain Road again. Although the roads were dry it was misty and quite cool. At one point I thought that the mist was getting a bit too dense until Sue pointed out that my glasses had fogged up! It was decidedly chilly however and by the time we reached Sidney our group needed little persuasion to stop at Starbucks for a coffee; it was so nice to warm inside up for 10 minutes or so. Rather surprisingly, when we turned onto Wain Road the mist evaporated and we returned to Royal Oak under a clear blue sky. Apart from one incident of 'digital road rage' from an SUV driver the ride was uneventful.
Saturday rides will continue, meeting at Francelli's Coffee Shop in the Royal Oak Shopping Centre at 9:00 am.
