Also known as "I'll be back until you sign up to volunteer"

Team West Coast Needs you, its members, to help out twice a year at theBazan Bay 5km and the Victoria Youth Triathlon. In return you are able to swim, bike, run, walk, drink, eat and sleep (okay, okay maybe the sleep part is an exaggeration).

Ø Did you know funds raised at Bazan Bay go towards the Youth Triathlon, a break even event put on by TWC for the youth of BC?

Ø Did you know that a portion of the funds are donated to various charitable groups?

Ø Did you know the remainder helps support numerous club activities (you will have to wait for thePart III to find out which ones)?

We are on track to make this year's Bazan Bay 5km another great success. A number of TWC members and their spouseshave stepped forward to volunteerbut we still need more. You can help out:

Ø a week before the race with flyer distribution

Ø race day pre race set up

Ø race marshalling

Ø kitchen/hall support

Ø post race tear down

Ø Saturday (7th)race pick upat Frontrunners

Ø race day registration

Island Race Series Carpooling

Anyone wishing to carpool to out of town races can meet at the Helmcken Road park-and-ride lot. All out of town races start at 11:00, so departure times are suggested so that arrival at the race is approximately 10:00 to allow time for a coffee along the way and a warm-up jog before the race. If you are planning to carpool to the race, and plan to leave at a different time, let wabbit know how many seats are available and I can post in the Digest if you are looking to fill a vehicle. Also, don't forget www.pickuppal.com as another option.

[ March 22, Comox Valley Half Marathon - 07:30 departure

[ April 5, Merville 15k - 07:00 departure

[ April 19, Sooke River 10k & Series Awards - 09:15 departure

TWC Cycling News

The weather was cold and crisp, but no rain and there was a large turnout for the Saturday ride, probably because Wayne was playing St. Valentine and gave all the women in the group a gift certificate for Francelli's – what a guy! The first group set off for Sidney followed by Val, Jacquie, Janice and Steve who told us that they did a portion of the Goose and out to the Peninsula – can never quite figure out their descriptions, but do pass by them going in the opposite direction once in a while, so do know that they're riding! I (Sue) started to lag behind around Martindale Rd, but Tom (because it was Valentine's Day) pulled me all the way to Tulista Park where I said goodbye to the group and wended my way home. Bob Woof and Ken Ross picked up the pace and led the rest of us around Lands End without incident until ½ block from coffee when Ken had a flat, with the ensuing discussion about rim tape, etc. Karen was an eager listener to this discussion, again, developing new-found knowledge from taking (along with Jacquie) the Women's Bike Repair Course, from a Woman instructor! I (Karen) am so pleased that I made the "Riders in Shining Helmets" feel so good about helping me with my derailleur cable last week. After all, what are "damsels in distress" all about anyway – to make others feel good! Next time there's a problem guys – you can call on Jacquie & I! Again, we'll make things better – one way or the other!

See you Saturday, at Francelli's Coffee Shop in the Royal Oak Shopping Centre at 9:00 am.

Sue and Karen, TWC Cycling "Assistants"
